Vietnam Leads ASEAN Digital Transformation Summit
Vietnam’s commitment to a people‑centric ASEAN Digital 2030 strategy aims to unite member states around secure, inclusive tech growth.
On the sidelines of the 6th ASEAN Digital High‑Level Officials Meeting (ADGSOM), held from 12 to 16 January in Hanoi, Vietnam, as host country, reaffirmed its role as the driving force behind a collaborative digital future for Southeast Asia.
During the opening ceremony, Thailand’s Deputy Secretary‑General of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Chomparee Chompurat, formally handed over the chairmanship of ADGSOM 2026 to Vietnam. The Thai delegation praised the host nation’s leadership capacity and expressed a shared vision for a safe, innovative and inclusive digital region.

Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of International Cooperation, Trần Thanh Hà, affirmed that as ADGSOM chair, the country would work with all ASEAN members, the Secretariat and external partners to push a practical, inclusive digital agenda aligned with sustainable development.

Under Vietnam’s chairmanship, the agenda prioritizes the ASEAN Digital 2030 Blueprint, placing citizens and enterprises at its core. It emphasizes integrated policy‑making across digital, cybersecurity and economic spheres, and seeks broader collaboration with dialogue partners and international organisations.
From Infrastructure to Intelligence: The Summit’s Theme
The conference’s theme, “ASEAN Adapting: From Infrastructure Connectivity to Intelligent Connectivity,” reflects the region’s strategic pivot. It moves beyond expanding physical networks to strengthening cooperation on artificial intelligence, cloud computing and emerging technologies, thereby boosting institutional capacity, adaptability and overall competitiveness.
Key Sessions and Outcomes
Following the handover ceremony, the summit moved into deliberations. High‑level dialogues were held with major stakeholders, including China, Japan, South Korea, the United States, India, the European Union, Russia, the Asia‑Pacific Telecommunity, the World Bank and the International Telecommunication Union. These two‑day discussions (13–14 January) focused on:
- Reviewing the 2024‑2025 digital cooperation results;
- Assessing implementation of leadership directives across ASEAN;
- Setting 2026 plans and budgets;
- Preparing agenda for the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting.
“Vietnam expects a high level of consensus, ensuring that the outcomes presented at ADGMIN are both strategically oriented and practically feasible,” stated the host nation’s delegation.
Impact on Southeast Asian Digital Ecosystem
Through collective effort, ASEAN has enhanced coordination in several areas: combating online fraud, promoting AI governance, managing digital data, facilitating cross‑border data flows, securing and repairing undersea cables, and bolstering cybersecurity cooperation.

As Chomparee Chompurat noted, these achievements underscore ASEAN’s shared commitment to building a secure, citizen‑centric and trustworthy digital ecosystem.
